Sons and Daughters of a Creative God

Sons and Daughters of a Creative God
When we think about creativity, we often think about artists, designers, musicians, inventors, or people who seem naturally full of ideas.
But creativity is much broader than that.
Creativity is the ability to create, develop new possibilities, solve problems, and express ideas in an original and useful way. filhas de um Deus criativo
And that is one of the reasons I love this subject so much.
Because when I look at the Bible, I see a deeply creative God.
He created.
He gave form.
He organized.
He brought beauty, diversity, and purpose into existence.
And He also gave people specific skills to create, build, design, and develop meaningful work. Exodus 35 speaks about people who received abilities for artistic and skilled work. filhas de um Deus criativo
So creativity is not only about making something beautiful.
Sometimes creativity is simply finding another way.
Creativity often appears when life requires a solution
The Bible gives us many examples of people who faced situations without an obvious answer.
The daughters of Zelophehad faced a situation without an established precedent. They understood their circumstances, spoke up, and presented their case. filhas de um Deus criativo
Jochebed found a creative way to protect Moses.
Abigail used wisdom and quick thinking to prevent a tragedy.
Dorcas used her skills to care for people around her. filhas de um Deus criativo
Different people.
Different problems.
Different solutions.
That matters.
God does not make us all the same, so our way of creating, solving problems, learning, and contributing will not look the same either.
Creativity is not reserved for artists
We can see the same pattern throughout history.
Melitta Bentz found a different way to filter coffee.
Nise da Silveira challenged common psychiatric practices of her time and explored art as part of therapeutic care.
Joy Mangano took an everyday frustration and turned it into a practical invention.
The presentation also highlights Zilda Arns, who faced enormous needs with limited resources and helped develop simple strategies to reduce infant mortality. filhas de um Deus criativo
Many creative ideas begin with a very ordinary question:
There has to be another way to do this.
That question has been part of my own life too.
When creativity becomes personal
As a psychologist, mother, author, and creator, many of the tools I developed did not begin with the goal of creating a product.
They began with a need.
How can I explain this in a simpler way?
How can I help someone understand what is happening inside their body and brain?
How can I make an abstract psychological concept more concrete?
How can I create something useful for anxiety, attention, emotional regulation, or sensory needs?
Sometimes I could not find exactly what I needed.
So I started creating.
In the presentation, I describe part of my own story as a creative solution God gave me. filhas de um Deus criativo
That same idea became part of the heart behind Creative & Mind.
We do not create simply because something looks cute or interesting.
We start with a real need.
Then we ask:
How can we make this more practical, understandable, sensory, and useful?
The brain needs room to create
There is also an important neurological side to creativity.
When the brain stays under intense stress for long periods, attention often becomes narrower. The brain focuses more heavily on immediate problems, threats, and survival.
That is useful when danger is real.
But it can make flexible thinking much harder.
Creativity needs a certain amount of mental space.
Curiosity helps.
Play helps.
Rest helps.
Sensory experiences can help.
Feeling safe enough to explore helps.
This is one reason I believe creative and sensory experiences can have such value. They are not simply activities to fill time.
They can invite the brain to explore, notice, experiment, and engage differently.
You were never created to be a copy
One of the most important messages from this presentation comes near the end.
God created you in an original way.
You will never be exactly like someone else.
And no creative process looks exactly the same. filhas de um Deus criativo
Comparison can make us so focused on what someone else is doing that we stop noticing what God has already placed in our own hands.
You may not paint.
You may not design.
You may never invent a product.
That does not mean you are not creative.
Creativity can appear in the way you solve a problem.
The way you teach something.
The way you care for someone.
The way you organize a space.
The way you adjust a routine that is no longer working.
The way you help a child understand something difficult.
The way you create a new possibility when the old one no longer works.
Sometimes creativity is impressive.
Sometimes it is very ordinary.
And sometimes it looks like trying something different on a Tuesday afternoon because the first three ideas did not work.
That counts too.
We are sons and daughters of a Creative God.
And perhaps some of the solutions we keep searching for begin with recognizing something simple.
God created us with the capacity to imagine, build, adapt, learn, and create.
So maybe the next question is not:
Am I creative?
Maybe the better question is:
What can I create with what God has already placed in my hands?
